Providing Quality Health Care for a Vulnerable Population

Violence against women has been a reality long before the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which has only exacerbated this public health crisis. Increased isolation due to quarantine measures has seen an increase in domestic violence cases, especially in low-resource areas.

This self-paced course, “Violence Against Women during COVID-19”, is designed to equip primary healthcare professionals in Latin America and the Caribbean to care for women suffering from domestic violence during a turbulent time, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants are introduced to interprofessional principles of trauma-informed care for victims of domestic violence and/or sex trafficking, and to their unique healthcare needs, including risk for myocardial infarction.

Course content is framed by the WHO Framework for Action on Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice, focusing on training primary care practitioners in prevention, screening, early detection, and referral of women at risk for or are subject to domestic abuse.
