Essentials of Point of Care Ultrasound for the Hospital Provider

Presented by UAB Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine.

Presented through online content, followed by in-person instruction and hands-on scanning with alternating content every other month in UAB Simulation Lab with standardized patients

 

Target Audience: APPs, Fellows and Faculty in acute and critical care settings

 

After participating in each session, 12 CME will be awarded, and participants should be able to:

  1. Discuss capabilities and limitations of ultrasound equipment and POCUS views as it will apply to their practice setting
  2. Obtain each view in the systems of cardiac, thoracic, abdominal, vascular on standardized patient
  3. Interpret POCUS views in course, apply knowledge to clinical scenario examples and improve ability to apply in clinical practice

 

Content:

Day One: Cardiac/Abdominal/RP

1:00-4:00PM – knobology, introductory cardiac and abdominal views with image interpretation and clinical scenario discussion. Learners will have multiple opportunities to scan on live, standardized patients.

 

Day Two: Thoracic/DVT

1:00-4:00PM – knobology, introductory thoracic views including BLUE protocol and lower extremity venous views with image interpretation and clinical scenario discussion. Learners will have multiple opportunities to scan on live, standardized patients.
