Course Description:

The Enhancing Performance Across the Neurological Spectrum course will address numerous shortcomings in many organizations that impact human performance, including performance management systems, safety management systems, and work method planning and execution systems which may not consider neurodivergent (ND) workers and their unique strengths and challenges. With a foundational premise that neurodiversity enhances organizational performance, the course will enable learners to create opportunities in their workplaces to enhance individual, team and organizational performance through empowering ND workers to be effective team members. The course focuses on an often-overlooked population within existing safety programs; the ND workforce Comprising those with neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism, ADHD and dyslexia. While these conditions have been considered disorders, modern research shows that these conditions are often accompanied by significant cognitive strengths in addition to challenges. Many organizations  have begun focusing on recruiting ND workers for their unique perspectives and skillsets they can bring to the workplace. ND people may also be more prone to injury due to sensorimotor differences  and possess unique psychological safety needs. Traditional safety management systems which do not take these differences into account will likely fail to meet the needs of ND workers. This course aims to equip leaders, managers and workers across multiple domains (including safety, operations, administration, quality and other performance areas) with the knowledge to create team-based approaches to enhance neuroinclusivity of work systems and hazard mitigation strategies which pull from unique insights from ND workers to enhance overall effectiveness and efficiency. A key focus of the course is integration of neurodiversity concepts with Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles, which provide a foundation for building a culture of learning and high psychological safety upon which principles of the neurodiversity paradigm can be added to further enhance wellbeing and performance of ND workers.
